My Family Got Coronavirus

Welcome to the 40th edition of From V to You, a weekly letter of inspiration, tips, tricks, and behind-the-scenes of how I’m building a business around my personal brand so you can too. If you’ve missed the previous letters, you can always read them here.

If you have been following me on Instagram, you know that this has been one of the hardest weeks of my life. My mom, dad, sister, grandfather, and both grandmothers have ALL tested positive for COVID-19.

It’s been truly awful + I have never felt more helpless in my life.

Thankfully, as of this moment, everyone is at home fighting this terrible virus. My mom was discharged from the hospital on Friday, and we’re praying no one else will need to go to the hospital anytime soon.

I don’t wish this stress and despair to anyone!

And even though my world seemed to stop, the marketing emails in my inbox didn’t.

But I was absolutely more sensitive to insensitive messages.

If you were rude to me this week, I will forever remember your rudeness.

If you were kind to me this week, I will forever appreciate your kindness.

And that’s exactly what happened.

I was facilitating a major livestream this week, and one of the influencers who we wanted to speak for us emailed me a couple of times in my inbox with ALL CAPS. He was indignant that we hadn’t fit his precious schedule into ours…even though he waited till the last minute to confirm he wanted to participate…ALL FREAKING CAPS.

Contrast that to an executive assistant who worked for another major influencer.

She was super sweet throughout all the back and forth emailing, but as soon as the event was finished, I got a $35 digital Starbucks gift card sent to my inbox from her and her boss. It wasn’t anything over the top, but the gesture after a long day and even longer week brought tears to my eyes.

I emailed and thanked them both for the kind gesture. And then she emailed me this:

“You are SO welcome and deserving!  We cannot thank you enough for all that you’ve done.

You both are such incredible, strong, organized women but most importantly you’re upbeat, positive and kind and it’s an absolute pleasure working with you!

Yours, Gabrielle”

I’m crying, even writing this.

Sometimes even in your darkest moments, all you need is just a little bit of goodness to rise back up.

Please be that goodness in your contacts’ lives.

Whether they’re your customers or not.

Whether they can get you something or not.

Be that goodness. Be that light.

You never know what someone could be going through.

Till next Sunday my friend,

Spread the love
