I don’t have a name that is universally known
I don’t have an upcoming book deal
I don’t have any paid speaking engagements lined up
And I don’t have the gift of not having to worry about providing for my family

Despite all that I don’t have, I still feel compelled to go for it. So what is ‘it’?

‘It’ is building a business and a life on the foundations of a dream, with blind faith, and a desire to serve. To build a business on my own merit, my own name, and my own why. To build a vehicle that helps people stand out so they can help others thrive and survive. To build a business from my personal brand. Let me explain:

For the last 5 years of my life, I founded and ran a branding and marketing agency that helped people and companies brand themselves and amplify their name through effective marketing services. Beyond that, over the last 10 years of my life, I’ve been the person responsible for executing all of the branding and marketing: websites, social posts, ads, articles, blogs, emails, etc. And as much as I loveeee the feeling of finishing a project and checking something off my to-do list, I’ve done myself and my clients a great injustice.

To use the famous “teach a man to fish” analogy, I have spent a decade of my life fishing for hundreds of clients and never once properly teaching them to fish for themselves. In my pursuit of “done,” I failed to empower others to self-generate their own ideas and whys. And in offering my best to others, I’ve neglected to serve myself. Don’t get me wrong, I can continue offering the world my services and support my family in this pursuit but I know I will always hit the same wall. There is a barrier to this “do-it-for-you” approach and that barrier is TIME. I don’t have the time to help as many people that have asked or will ask. And as much as I love the feeling of “done,” I hate the feeling of “I can’t” more. I can’t help you because “I’m booked”, “I pick up my boys at 3”, “I’m slammed,” “I’m traveling for work,” “I’m about to board a plane,” etc.

I have watched and continue to watch these personal brands build a platform that allows them to serve as many people as they’re meant to serve. To serve at scale. To serve whoever, wherever, whenever. I aspire to do the same. Not for the fame, not for their bank statements. For this:

I feel called to help more people. It’s a feeling, now a roar, inside of me that has grown in the last year and half.
